Mission Statement

There seems to be a misnomer of the term "full time service" in our churches today. To most people the term refers to those who have a hired position in a local church. These people are expected to perform their duties given them by the pastor. Most of the work accomplished through that particular local church is done by the hired staff. The truth is every Christian is called to full time service for the Lord. While some are chosen for a special place of service every Christian is to be a full time servant for the Lord.

Perhaps the reason for dying churches across America where thousands are existing without a single convert or baptism is due to a dead laity! While there must be a staff that leads in the work of the church by instruction and example it is a fact that a church is not following the instruction of God if the laymen are not a part of the work. When the laymen do follow the  leading of the pastor and staff and get "on fire" for God that church will experience exciting growth. This growth will be spiritually in each individual and numerically in the total church membership.

While I have been raised in church by godly parents and a father who was a Baptist pastor and have observed churches many years I have noticed an important factor in church growth. Those churches who had laymen leadership following pastoral and staff leadership experienced tremendous growth and had many souls come to Christ. We must return to the Bible principle of every Christian being involved through the local church rather than continuing in a hired group doing the work of the church.

It is our purpose at Commonwealth Baptist to train not only Pastors and church staff but to train Layman Leadership. Equipping the saints for the work of the ministry. I believe that church growth and revival comes not when the pulpit is on fire but when the laymen in the pews get on fire for the Lord! When the laymen take the gospel to the work place, where they live and to everyone they can reach for Christ. The fire begins in the pulpit but must not be confined to the four walls of the church. It must spread to our communities, schools, businesses, factories, shops and cities if we are to affect America.

Whether you are called to serve God on a hired church staff position or a Full Time Laymen servant of God, we invite you to begin your leadership training here at Commonwealth Baptist College. While not everyone is called to serve on a church staff, everyone is called to full time service for the Lord.

Dr. Jeffery J. Fugate
Founder
Commonwealth Baptist College

Commonwealth Baptist College was founded in part because of the vision of Dr. Russell Anderson. Originally from Floyd County, Kentucky, Dr. Anderson still has Kentucky in his heart. His burden is to see Independent Fundamental Baptist churches started all across the state. He has allowed God to use him to be the co-founder of the college, in the firm conviction that God will use it to train men and women to serve the Lord.

    Doctrinal Statement

    SCRIPTURES

We believe in the verbal, plenary inspiration of the Bible. The Old and New Testament are definitely inspired word for word. We accept the Textus Receptus manuscripts from which came the King James Bible. The Scripture is the final Authority in all matters of faith and practice.

    SOVEREIGN GOD

God is a Person, eternally existing, as a Trinity in unity - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - three Persons and yet but one God. (Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19; I Corinthians 8:6).

    SON

Jesus Christ, eternally existing, is the only begotten Son of God, Who became a man totally apart from sin, being conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, and is true God and true man. (Luke 1:30-35; John 1:1-15; Philippians 2:5-8; Colossians 1:15)

    SIN

Man was created in the image of God but fell through sin, bringing not only physical death but also spiritual death - separation from God. Now all mankind is totally depraved, having inherited a sinful nature, is bent toward sinning, and has become sinful in thought, word, and deed. (Genesis 1:26, 27; 2:16, 17; 3:6-19; Romans 3:10-23; 6:23)

    SACRIFICE

The Lord Jesus Christ suffered and died as a substitutionary sacrifice for the sins of the whole world. He arose from the dead in the body in which He was crucified; He ascended into Heaven in the glorified body where He is seated at the right hand of God the Father as Head of the Church, making intercession for the saints as our High Priest. (Luke 24; Acts 1:9-11; Romans 5:8-10; Ephesians 1:20-23; I Peter 3:18)

    SALVATION

Man is lost and must be born again to enter the Kingdom of God. Salvation is by grace alone through personal faith in the finished work of Christ on the cross. (John 1:12; 3:3-7; Ephesians 2:8, 9)

    SERVICE

The local church is a group of believers baptized by water, banded together for edification, exhortation, and evangelism as commanded by Christ in the Great Commission: preaching the Gospel to every creature. (Mark 16:15; I Corinthians 12:12; Ephesians 1:22, 23)

    SECOND COMING

The Lord Jesus Christ Himself is coming again in the air at any moment to catch up His Church and to reward their service; the unbeliever left behind will go through a period called the Tribulation, after which Christ shall return visibly to the earth to set up His Kingdom of one thousand years of righteous rule; after this the unbeliever of all ages will stand at the Great White Throne to be judged and cast into the Lake of Fire, separated from God forever, while the believers spend eternity in the fullness of joy in Heaven with the Lord. (Matthew 24:29-42; I Thessalonians 4:16-18; Revelation 19:11 -20:15)
Commonwealth Baptist College is located in Lexington, Kentucky. In many ways, Lexington is like a fairy tale town, innately romantic with its fabulous countryside, rich history, and natural beauty. Yet, it is bursting at the seams and spilling over with enthusiasm for its bright and prosperous future. Lexington possesses all of the advantages that a thriving urban area can offer, while at the same time maintaining a small town charm.

The college campus is located off Versailles Road just outside the circle. The campus consists of a newly renovated college building that includes classrooms, a dating parlor, an activities room, a chapel, a computer lab, and dorm rooms.

You can find Commonwealth Baptist College by taking New Circle Road to the Versailles Road exit. Head west (towards Versailles) on Versailles Road for about a mile. The college will be on your left.
